I often have deep and random thoughts while I’m running. Here are fifteen of them from my time in Key West.
1. Where am I?
2. What a neat cemetery.
3. Has anyone ever died from excess humidity?
4. I hope I don’t trip on that coconut on the side of the road.
5. Why is there a straw in that coconut on the side of the road?
6. Is that street sweeper following me?
7. Look out chicken!
8. I wonder if there is a Chick-fil-a on this island?
9. Those donuts smell good.
10. This side street smells bad.
11. I’m lost and in the ghetto.
12. I hate sidewalks. Asphalt is better.
13. I hope that scooter doesn’t hit me.
14. I cant wait to go swimming.
15. I’m swimming in sweat.
What do you think about while running?

LOL — I have the same types of random thoughts running through my head when I run. I run early so I rarely smell food cooking (at 4:30 a.m.) but when I do I try and determine (in the short time I smell it) exactly what it was I smelled. I sometimes do math while I run. I’ll start at 1,000 and count backwards by 7′s — it occupys my mind for hours — literally! I love your list! Happy Friday!
I’m pretty sure that I smell food even when there isn’t any actual food cooking. It’s mostly in my head. I find it amazing that you count down from 1000 by 7. Sounds like a great way to disassociate from the pain of running.
Thanks for reading and happy Friday to you!
Great list. I guess we all have random things we think about when running. One common one I seem to have, is “Watch out for the doggie doo-doo”. I run in a park a lot.
Happy Running!
Yes. Doggie-poo can be a problem. I often have to dodge road kill and snakes.
Thanks for reading and happy running to you!
My husband & I just started running 3 miles together. Honestly, I am telling myself over and over you can do this. Don’t stop, pretty much the whole time. There are a few thoughts like what a beautiful sunset, and man I’m hot- lol.
That’s great that you and your husband are running together Misty. It makes it easier to have a running partner. And it is always good to keep telling yourself that you can do it. It’s mind over matter.
